Sir Malcolm and the Sunken Croft

A brisk autumn wind sweeps across the castle pastures, dusting the high hillsides with early morning frost. Equipped with his sketchbook, willow charcoal, and the mysterious brass falcon key hanging safe beneath his tunic, ten-year-old knight-in-training Malcolm is ready for an expedition into the open country. Mindful of groundskeeper Master Trill's warnings about slick bracken and steep footing, Malcolm and his devoted Scottish sheepdog, Brody, climb beyond the courtyard walls toward the eastern boundary slopes. What they uncover tucked away in the forgotten hollows of the Sunken Croft reveals yet another remarkable link to the estate's hidden past, demanding careful observation, patience, and a true explorer's eye. Rich with crisp pastoral beauty, wholesome adventure, and faithful companionship, Sir Malcolm and the Sunken Croft is the fourth installment in the Sir Malcolm the Brave series, written for early independent readers and family read-alouds.
