Sir Malcolm and the Whispering Gorge

With the royal family away at the capital for the season, ten-year-old knight-in-training Malcolm has been entrusted with an important duty: keeping watch over the castle's winding perimeter tracks and sprawling estate grounds. Armed with a wooden practice sword, a coil of rope, and a hearty trail lunch, Malcolm steps into the crisp autumn mist with his faithful Scottish sheepdog, Brody, trotting right by his side. Guided by the stern warnings of Master Finch, the estate's studious scholar, and the outdoor wisdom of Master Trill, the seasoned groundskeeper, Malcolm heads north toward the limestone hollows. But as the biting autumn breeze shifts and stirs the high pines, Malcolm discovers that being a true knight is about much more than carrying a sword-it takes sharp eyes, patience, and learning to listen when nature speaks. Filled with classic pastoral warmth, loyal companionship, and quiet exploration, Sir Malcolm and the Whispering Gorge is the debut installment of the Sir Malcolm the Brave series, written for young readers and family read-alouds.
