"Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" is een solide release van de Robert Cray Band. De nummers zijn constant sterk en Robert Cray is op de top van zijn kunnen, zijn soepele zang, scherpe gitaarwerk en slimme songwriting zetten hem op gelijke hoogte met de beste moderne blues van nu. De band krijgt vaak niet de eer die ze zo verdienen, want Richard Cousins (bas), Peter Boe (keyboards) en David Olson (drums) doen uitstekend werk. De blazerssectie bestaat uit de Memphis Horns en Wayne Jackson. Ook is er een gastoptreden van David Sanborn die saxofoon speelt op "Acting This Way".
