The uncritical adoption of the competency-based model has led to a semantic and operational shift that subordinates the ethical, political, and emancipatory goals of education to narratives of efficiency, measurability, and employability.Words are not empty vessels; they convey worldviews, intentions, and operational logics. When we stop talking about education, knowledge, or development and instead speak almost exclusively of competencies, indicators, and accountability, our relationship with students changes. The verb "to compete," upon which this approach is based, implies the existence of a winner and a loser. The school, historically conceived as a space for study, equal opportunity, and the development of community-minded citizens, is being reshaped into a racetrack where children and young people are trained to meet the demands of a productive system that evaluates them based on their functional utility.
