Sun Yat-sen's image in the early Republic of China and his reflections on the modern state.¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿Where My Aspirations Lie: Sun Yat-sen and Modern China is one volume in the "Zhongda Historical Studies Series," which publishes monographs by renowned scholars in the field of historical research at Sun Yat-sen University as well as collections of their latest research findings. This book is a collection of some of the author's research achievements on Sun Yat-sen in recent years, divided into six thematic sections: "Image" and "Social Conditions" against the Republican background; the "difficulties" and "small matters" of the provisional president; "politics" and "society" in considerations of construction; "Father of the Nation" and "isms" amid the calls for the retrocession of Taiwan; new forces and new paths in modern China; and historical sources and historiography of Sun Yat-sen studies in the new century. The book focuses on Sun Yat-sen's ideals, practice, and influence regarding modern China, examining topics that have been relatively weak in academic research, and objectively reviewing Sun Yat-sen's efforts, contributions, and contemporary significance in China's march toward a modern state. It attempts to promote new progress in Sun Yat-sen studies on the basis of excavating new historical sources and deeply interpreting old ones.¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿"¿¿"¿"¿¿"¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿
