Where Bridges Begin

Where Bridges Begin is a poignant and deeply immersive novel about reinvention, quiet strength, and the unexpected places where healing takes root. Set against the rain-drenched streets and bridges of Portland, Oregon, this emotionally rich narrative explores the fragile beauty of starting over - and the quiet resilience it demands. After a painful divorce, Emma Wallace returns to the city she once called home with her eight-year-old daughter in tow and nothing but a suitcase full of doubts. Portland greets her not as a sanctuary, but as a mirror: reflecting back memories she tried to bury and offering paths she never planned to walk again. With the help of her old friend Rachel, Emma begins the painstaking work of rebuilding her life - piece by piece, silence by silence. But beginnings aren't clean, and the past isn't polite. What unfolds is not just a story of a woman redefining herself, but of a mother learning how to be whole again for her child, and a professional discovering the courage to step into unfamiliar roles in an unfamiliar world. At the heart of it all stands the Burnside Bridge - an architectural metaphor for transition, trust, and all the space between who we were and who we hope to be.Emma's journey will resonate with anyone who's ever faced the ache of reinvention, the tension of complex friendships, and the vulnerability of opening up after betrayal. With poetic prose and razor-sharp emotional insight, Valentina Kulieva paints a portrait of contemporary womanhood that is tender, aching, and ultimately uplifting.Where Bridges Begin is not a fairytale. It's a story about survival, softness, and small victories - the kind you whisper to yourself in quiet rooms when no one is watching. This is a novel for readers who believe that home isn't a place - it's a moment. A connection. A bridge.
