Bol In this Latin poetry commentary, journey through the markets, taverns, and alleys of ancient Rome as the Roman epigrammatist Martial acclaims, excoriates, mocks, and lauds all sorts of characters from the everyday citizens to the emperor himself. Designed for high school or college instructors and students, this reader has over 140 of Martial's epigrams, each complete with full Latin text, accompanying vocabulary list, and grammar notes, all designed to be viewable on the same page. There is also a full English translation of each poem, as well as a list of rhetorical devices and grammatical constructions covered. The format of this commentary echoes that of "Pharr styled" Latin commentaries for students also made popular by Geoffrey Steadman and Barbara Weiden Boyd.
