Bol When Daddy's Storms Come Home is a tender 32-page children's picture book that helps young readers understand what happens when a parent returns from military deployment carrying the invisible wounds of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).The story is told through the eyes of a young Black child, ages 5-10, who notices that Daddy seems different after coming home from military deployment. Sometimes he is distant, sometimes loud noises upset him, and sometimes he seems sad with "storms" inside. With gentle guidance from Mommy, the child learns that Daddy's storms are not the child's fault, and that love, patience, and support can help the family heal together.Symbolic storm clouds in the illustrations represent PTSD episodes, while sunshine and warm family scenes symbolize healing and hope. By the end, the child sees that even though storms may come, love and family bonds are stronger - and storms don't last forever.
