Year 3333, in a time when the air is contaminated, and people live underground. The majority of the population since the war 9 years ago, are kids. But why? And there are strange creatures that can be deadly. Warning bells have increased daily. When Akana goes to the Earthen update's, she finds out that they have found a hole in the site where the bomb that polluted the air is kept. Four kids will be chosen to help figure out how to fix this before things get even worse and they run out of air. Each night Akana seems to be having the same dream with a woman that she doesn't know. Is it just a dream....... or a warning? Will they make it through the forest alive, or will hazel's get in their way?
