Bath County, Kentucky, was formed in 1811. A valuable source of information about the early county is the set of interviews conducted by John Dabney Shane. Shane sought out and interviewed aging pioneers of central Kentucky during the 1840s and 1850s. The pioneers recounted their dangerous journey to Kentucky, America's first western frontier, and their daily struggle against the wilderness, the elements, and the Native Americans who had called Kentucky home for thousands of years.
