At the beginning of the 20th century, the founder of the first school of sociology, Emile Durkheim, declared that the legislature is the most important sphere in society, since it is here that the laws that will govern social relations are determined. In this way, law is thought of as a sphere of social organisation. Ethics, civil law, legal psychology and politics are the main areas that underpin this study. Thus, stem cell research, racial quotas, prison overcrowding, compensation for psychic damage, human rights, adoption, shared custody and the Brazilian electoral system are some of the themes addressed in this work from the critical point of view of each author.
