Voices Within

From award-winning author Lana Stasek comes the Russian-language edition of Voices Within: Family Chronicles. The English-language edition received a 2026 Readers' Favorite Book Award - Honorable Mention in the Non-Fiction Audiobook category. This book isn't an archive - it's a storm. It begins in silence and fear: a child too afraid of dogs to cross the street, a five-year-old frozen on stage, a grandmother tearing her dress into strips, a grandfather hiding buckets of cash that later became worthless paper. It moves through inheritance - not the kind written into a will, but the kind carried through families in fear, rage, jealousy, shame, and silence. Patterns are passed down quietly, until someone finally recognizes them. What do you do when you realize your family history isn't just behind you - it's inside you?You either break the chain, or you pass it on.Voices Within: Family Chronicles moves between Soviet kitchens and American suburbs, between mothers and daughters, marriages and divorces, immigration and reinvention. It examines the roles people inherit, the wounds families repeat, and the difficult work of recognizing what belongs to you and what never did. There is pain here, but also humor, sarcasm, love, and the stubborn refusal to remain trapped inside someone else's version of your life. This is memoir, but it is also a mirror. It asks readers to look at the patterns they carry, the fears they inherited, and the stories they continue long after the original events are gone.Voices Within: Family Chronicles is for readers drawn to memoir, family history, psychological reflection, resilience, and the complicated ways memory shapes identity. Not a family album. Not a victim's diary.Raw memory, examined without filters.
