Daniel Ottensamer's new CD is a journey into exciting musical realms in two respects: on the one hand, there is wonderful music to be discovered from France in the 19th and 20th centuries, which unfortunately is not given enough attention in this country. For decades in France, it was a good sound to compose demanding pieces for clarinet, which at the same time revel in rich melodies. On the other hand, Ottensamer's warm, dark clarinet sound adds a sonic component to this atmospheric repertoire that is rarely heard. The sounding result is all the more compelling as congenial accompanists for this atmospheric repertoire were found with Stephan Koncz and the Munich Symphony Orchestra.
