Uni Verse

UniVerse is the first collection of the early poems of the passionate and outspoken poet, Dajenya. Inspired by direct personal experience as a queer woman born to an African-American father and a Euro-American mother at a time, (1953), when such marriages were rare, Dajenya's poetry takes on issues of race, sexuality, spirituality, trauma, drug recovery, friendship, and her strong feelings about war, patriarchy and more. This collection, her first to be published, contains some of her best poetry from the years 1965 through 2000.Some of Dajenya's poetry has also been published in 5 anthologies: Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out, (Alyson Publications,1991), Sister/Stranger: Lesbians Loving Across the Lines, (Sidewalk Revolution Press, 1993), Bisexual Politics: Theories, Queries & Visions, (The Haworth Press,1995), What I Want From You: Voices of East Bay Lesbian Poets, (RAW ArT Press, 2006), and Smash the Church, Smash the State!: The Early Years of Gay Liberation, (City Lights Books, 2009), in addition to various publications including Sinister Wisdom, Women's Peace Journal, Rites of Passage, Anything That Moves, Women's Recovery Network, and more.
