He was sent to Earth and forced to work for ordinary mortals as punishment for his crime. He became a slave to King Eurytheus, the vicious ruler of Mycenae. The king would only grant Hercules his freedom once he had completed a series of impossible tasks. These tasks would become known as the Twelve Tasks of Hercules.
