Bol The purpose of this study is therefore to evaluate the performance of effluent treatment from farm-based cheese dairies using a biofilter. More specifically, this master's thesis project involves the startup, development, and operation of a pilot biofilter in which whey (a component of the waste) is separated from the cheese-making effluent to serve as the influent for the biofiltration system. A second objective is to evaluate the treatment process. Biofiltration has thus proven to be a sound technique with great potential-one that is simple and effective for treating liquid effluents from farm-based cheese dairies. Furthermore, the pilot biofilter is easy to set up and operates autonomously without the need for regular assistance from a technician.
