Tommy Smiths Birds

Tommy Smith continues his journey into the heart of the natural world, focusing his attention on the feathered inhabitants of the English countryside. No longer the boy who threw stones at hedges, he now waits with quiet patience for the birds to approach him. From the industrious nuthatch and the melodic nightingale to the clever crow and the tiny goldcrest, each bird offers a firsthand account of its daily life. They explain the intricate architecture of their nests, the tireless effort required to feed their young, and the remarkable instincts that guide their seasonal travels. Tommy learns that even the smallest songbird possesses a brilliance and a purpose that deserves his protection. This narrative serves as an immersive lesson in ornithology, highlighting the beauty and intelligence of the avian world while encouraging young readers to become careful observers and faithful stewards of nature. Tommy's transformation is complete as he realizes that the songs in the trees are not just noise, but the voices of his very best friends.
