Through the Cracks, Freedom

Weaving together memories, reflections, and poems, João Lessa plants a seed in time. The posthumous work Through the Cracks, Freedom - From a Boy's Eyes, completed in the year 2000, blends the pure wonder of a child with the lucidity of a contemplative soul. From a narrative set against a backdrop of simplicity and scarcity, Pardo recounts, with a gaze both critical and hopeful, episodes from his childhood in the countryside and at school, revisiting the history of Brazil's formation and giving voice to the silenced. The piece moves through themes such as inequality, education, spirituality, and justice, with eyes that still shine, even when they burn. This is not merely a book, but a gesture of continuity: a crack left open, an invitation to notice the light that insists on coming in, even through the smallest breach in the wall.
