"This Land . is now our Mother Country ."

"This Land... is now our Mother Country..." This, second book, recovers the origin story for the black American ethnicity. It broadens the ancestral study to all family lines while providing a historical contexture, beginning in the mid-eighteenth century. The title of this book was taken from a letter that Bishop Richard Allen wrote to Freedom's Journal, the first newspaper published for and by black Americans. This excerpt expands a bit from the book title. - "I have no doubt that there are many good men who do not see as I do, and are for sending us to Liberia, but they have not duly considered the subject-they are not men of colour - This land which we have watered with our tears and our blood, is now our mother country, and we are well satisfied to stay where wisdom abounds and the gospel is free." -Bishop Richard Allen -1827
