In normal times a financial advisor has three competitors: investors who do it themselves, client inertia and other advisors. In the wake of Fall 2008 do-it-yourselvers have lost confidence, inertia that kept clients from seeking investment advice from an outside advisor has significantly diminished and other advisors are nursing their wounds.
