The Wyvern's Glory (Masks of Terremar, Book 1)

Every mask carries the memory of those who wore it. Some carry sorrows that were never laid to rest. Six years after saving Terremar from the Terror, Elu has finally built the life he once searched the world for. He has a home in Ri Illiath, people who love him, and meaningful work as a maskmaker. The land may call him Guardian, but Elu has no desire to become a hero again. Then the old-tongue chant that awakens the spirits and guides his craft will not rise for him. A fisherman's mask lies unfinished beneath his hands, and the spirits within every mask he touches seem to be listening for something far away. When a wyvern dies on a distant shore, Elu reads its final memories and finds not hatred, but grief-a desperate sorrow calling across the sea and drawing him north. Following it means abandoning the quiet life he fought to earn and entering Varnor, where frightened kings gather armies and an ancient relic has vanished from the Tomb of the Kings: the Wyvern's Glory, the legendary mask once used by Coron Indibar to defeat the wyvern host. More wyverns are coming. Old legends are awakening. And somewhere ahead lies a wrong that has been hidden for generations. To prevent a war, Elu must uncover who took the Glory-and face what its legend has cost the living and the dead.
