The Work We Keep

Work is changing. But what is worth keeping? For years, Alice Mercer has been the person others rely on to keep things running. Every decision affects real people: employees worried about their futures, customers expecting reliable service and colleagues whose trust cannot be replaced by a better system. At home, life is changing too. His wife is making room for her own priorities, his daughter is finding her independence, and his aging mother still wants to make her own choices. Alice must learn that being responsible does not mean controlling everything-or being available all the time.Set in Boston, The Work We Keep is a contemporary workplace and family novel about ambition, money, trust and the consequences of change. It explores what technology can improve, what it cannot decide for us, and what happens when good intentions are not enough.
