The Weight Of Dead

The dead should never be disturbed. But some graves refuse to stay buried.Months after a violent storm uncovers a historic cemetery in theGreen Mountains of Vermont, the work of identifying the displaceddead continues inside a temporary morgue. Then one sealednineteenth-century coffin contains a discovery no one can explain.Curled in the arms of a young woman who died more than a centuryago is the body of a little girl whose death is painfully recent. For game warden and part-time constable Nate Briggs, thediscovery raises impossible questions. No child has been reportedmissing. There is no obvious connection between the two victims, separated by generations. And whoever placed the girl inside thatcoffin was not concealing a crime. As Nate follows a trail that winds through forgotten history and theuneasy folklore of Parker's Gore, he finds himself confronting a caseunlike any he has investigated before. It is rooted not in greed orrevenge, but in a dangerous conviction that the past can be madewhole. In a town where history is never entirely buried, the truth carries aweight all its own.
