the Vertical Ancestor: Reclaiming Walking Machine in an Age of Artificial Comfort

Your Body Was Built for a World That No Longer ExistsFor millions of years, humans survived through movement. We walked, climbed, explored, carried, balanced, and adapted to challenging terrain. The human body and brain became remarkably sophisticated because they had to.Today, many of those demands have disappeared. In The Vertical Ancestor, Dru White examines the growing mismatch between our ancient biology and our modern environment. Combining evolutionary science, health research, history, and lessons learned from a lifetime on the trail, he reveals why movement remains essential not only for physical health, but also for mental clarity, emotional resilience, and successful aging. This is more than a book about exercise. It is an exploration of what it means to be human-and a roadmap for reclaiming abilities that civilization has quietly encouraged us to abandon. The future may be increasingly artificial. Our biology is not.
