The Taint of Midas

What happens when the only man who could save a life arrives too late? For more years than he can remember, beekeeper Gabrilis has been guardian of an ancient temple, set high above the wild, blue beauty of the Ionian sea. When a smiling stranger pays him an unexpected visit, elderly and frail Gabrilis fails to see any danger. But the visitor carries a threat only Gabrilis's good friend Hermes Diaktoros can help him escape. Can he arrive in time to head off disaster? Tragically, only hours later, it's investigator Hermes himself who discovers Gabrilis's body. Devastated at his own failure to save the old man's life, Hermes sets out to identify those responsible for his friend's murder. But with neither badge nor warrant, how can he follow the dark and twisted road to convict the guilty? Using his unorthodox methods, his search leads Hermes to a man with a heart as black as night and an insatiable lust for money - a man who carries the weight of countless offences. But is he Gabrilis's killer? In The Taint of Midas, modern murder mystery meets ancient powers. Some crimes demand a different justice to what the law can offer, and Hermes - by no means a typical detective - always delivers an appropriate reckoning.
