Meghali Azzaro, Director of Analysis at the CIA, meets Patrick O'Connor at a futurist conference. Fascinated by his belief that movies are the key to forecasting the future, she employs him. He quickly becomes her key to understanding seemingly unexplainable events unfolding in the Middle East.They learn of a mysterious stranger known as 'the Storyteller', accompanied by a young girl named Soraya.
