I wrote this novel in the midst of a somber period after my sister lost her husband, leaving her to raise their three young children. I tried to put myself in her shoes and explore how someone can navigate grief and still move forward in life when sudden responsibilities are placed on their shoulders, especially without any source of income.I also tried to highlight the legacy her husband left behind-not only as a responsible husband and father, but also as a great leader. That is why I compared him to the male African Jacana, a bird with a unique role in raising its young. The male African Jacana builds a nest for the female to lay her eggs in the wetland. He also helps care for the eggs during the incubation period. Even after the eggs hatch, the male takes primary responsibility for caring for the young until they are able to fend for themselves. In this way, the African Jacana became a powerful symbol of the kind of husband, father, and leader he was: one who provided, protected, nurtured, and remained deeply involved in the lives of those he loved. This novel will help readers not only navigate the sudden twists and turns of life but also learn how to leave behind a great and lasting legacy.
