The Secret Mesa: A Gate Built from Silence

The war can end. The secrets beneath the mountain cannot. In 1938, physician Ruth Adler, physicist Jakob Adler, and Ruth's younger sister Miriam escape a Germany that has stripped their work, their safety, and even their names of value. Five years later, refuge brings them to a guarded mesa in New Mexico, where a hidden government project offers purpose at a price: every badge grants access by demanding silence. For the Montoya and Naranjo families, the new gate stands across land their hands have worked for generations. Gabriel returns to his former home as a laborer. Daniel watches an old watercourse disappear beneath military construction. Nathan Mercer, trusted with the project's records, believes careful paperwork can shield the people he loves-until protecting one claim requires burying another. As Ruth treats injuries no one will name and Jakob helps solve calculations whose human meaning remains deliberately distant, private loneliness and public duty begin to fracture the families from within. A child is born beneath a government blanket. A dangerous memorandum vanishes. And after victory, the gate stays closed.Warm, intimate, and morally searching, The Secret Mesa is a multigenerational historical saga about scientific conscience, ancestral land, restrained love, and the terrible interest charged by truths kept for the right reasons.Book 3 of The Jemez Legacy series.
