Bol The Philokalia, a seminal anthology in Eastern Orthodox Christianity, is a collection of texts written between the 4th and 15th centuries by spiritual masters. It serves as a guide to the contemplative life, focusing on the practice of inner prayer, the cultivation of virtues, and the struggle against passions. The term "Philokalia" itself means "love of the beautiful," reflecting its goal of guiding believers towards the beauty of a life united with God. Compiled in the 18th century by St. Nikodemos of the Holy Mountain and St. Makarios of Corinth, the Philokalia has profoundly influenced Orthodox spirituality, emphasizing the importance of prayer of the heart, watchfulness, and the unceasing remembrance of God. Its teachings continue to be a vital resource for those seeking spiritual growth and depth in their faith journey.
