Bol San, an Andalusian winemaker, is haunted by "fragments" after discovering a cave on his land. Through these fragments, we encounter his past lives in turbulent times across the centuries: the persecution of the Cathars, the plague years, Justinian's Constantinople (Islambol), and a monastic order in Andalusia that turned to worshiping the moon. He comes to realize that he has always been one and the same person, named Boismont-a truth carried within him through these "memories." "We are not people with a soul ... no, we are souls with a body at our disposal from time to time."
