Akiko is The Endunnlin, a one-of-a-kind warrior with the power to throw wind and fire. As the Endunnlin, she has always fought against the evil in her world. But she has also made enemies, and one-whom she thought long dead-has returned, seeking revenge. He has taken the form of a giant black spider, and he seeks to make her his slave. He is an evil wizard-a great evil wizard-and he has kidnapped her, used magic to take away her powers, and trapped her in a dark maze that seems to have no exit. She is frightened, hungry and thirsty, despondent, without any weapon, and she is alone-terribly alone. She has many friends among the humans, the elves, and the dragons. They search for her, but cannot find her, and her only method of communication is literally only a note inside a single bottle that she releases at the bottom of a great lake or sea. Can her friends find her, or can she escape the maze on her own? Or will she be turned into a spider and serve a master whose only plans involve evil and magic?
