The Making of Me

Some memories fade with time. Others endure-preserved in photographs, family traditions, familiar places, and the stories passed from one generation to the next. Together, they become the threads that weave a life.In The Making of Me, Mai Chang Vue transforms those memories into poetry, tracing a journey through childhood, family, identity, and belonging. With quiet honesty and vivid detail, she captures the moments that often go unnoticed-the ones that ultimately shape who we become.Written as a gift to her two daughters, this poetic memoir is also a tribute to a generation of Hmong girls growing up between cultures, carrying the hopes, sacrifices, and resilience of those who came before them. For readers of every background, these poems offer an intimate glimpse into the universal search for home, purpose, and self.Tender and deeply personal, The Making of Me honors family, memory, and the stories we carry with us. Through these poems, readers are invited to reflect on the people, places, and everyday moments that become part of who we are.
