Bol The Last Twelve Verses of the Gospel According to S. Mark by John William Burgon is a thorough defense of the authenticity of Mark 16:9-20, a passage that has been disputed by biblical scholars. Burgon, a staunch defender of biblical inerrancy and traditional Christian doctrine, wrote this work in response to the rising skepticism in the 19th century regarding the originality of these verses. The debate revolves around whether the last twelve verses of the Gospel of Mark were part of the original text or later additions. Some ancient manuscripts, such as the Codex Vaticanus and Codex Sinaiticus, omit these verses, leading many critics and scholars to question their legitimacy.
