Ishar Singh, was born at the end of the Indian Mutiny. Growing up under the five articles of his Sikh faith, his ambition was to join the British Indian Army and serve on the Northwest Frontier. His early years brought into contact with the freshly deployed 66th (Berkshire) Regiment at the Multan Cantonment. Subalterns Arthur and James came straight from Sandhurst, eager to see the new land and begin their illustrious careers. Alongside them was Eddie, a ranker, but not by choice, arriving together at Bombay and finding a land profoundly disorienting, they were assaulted by a sensory overload, by strict racial segregation, and confronted by an extreme environmental shock. A raw and rugged but beautiful land, finding themselves under the developing backdrop of the Second Anglo Afghan War. Confronted by duty, Victorian codes of intense social isolation and Purdah, can any romance survive here in the 'Land of Forbidden Love.'
