"The Kensingtons"

The Kensingtons originated in the Volunteer Rifle Corps' movement of the 1850s. In 1908 it became a battalion of the London Regiment in the Territorial Force. It was an infantry regiment from 1908 to 1940, and a heavy fire support unit from 1940 to 1945. In the years following World War 2, the regiment experienced many changes and yet it still remains within 31 (Middlesex Yeomanry & Princess Louise's Kensington) Signal Squadron, where the history and traditions of The Kensingtons remain firmly embodied. Battalion Deployments 1st Battalion: Deployed to France with the British Expeditionary Force. Later served in North Africa, Sicily, and Italy with the British First Army and the 78th Battleaxe Infantry Division. 2nd Battalion: Initially stationed in Iceland. Participated in the campaign from Normandy to Arnhem in North Western Europe with the 49th (West Riding) Infantry Division.
