The Jew From Odessa

In 1938, Rennie Buchan's world is upended when his merchant ship is rammed while entering a Soviet harbour. Turning his back on life at sea, he begins the long journey home to his family's ranch in Oklahoma. On the way, he passes through a Europe trembling on the edge of disaster. In Munich, during the nights of Kristallnacht, he meets Hannah, a young woman from New York. Their brief encounter stays with them both, and once Rennie reaches America, an exchange of letters grows into something neither expected. They marry, and Hannah leaves New York for the wide, demanding plains of Oklahoma, where the two work to shape a life from the land and from their shared hope for the future. Then war breaks out across the world, casting uncertainty over the life they have built. The choices ahead will test their strength and alter the course of their lives in ways they could never have imagined. A sweeping, deeply moving tale of love, endurance, and two ordinary people caught in extraordinary times.
