the History of Knights Templars

Tracing the rise and fall of one of the most influential military-religious orders of the Middle Ages, this history examines the Knights Templars from their foundation during the Crusades to their dramatic suppression in the early fourteenth century. Charles G. Addison explores the Order's role in the struggle for the Holy Land, its growing wealth, political influence, and unique position within medieval Europe.Drawing extensively on contemporary chronicles and documentary sources, including accounts from both Christian and Muslim observers, the book places the Templars within the wider context of the Crusades and the shifting balance of power between East and West. It also examines the accusations that led to the Order's downfall and provides a detailed history of London's Temple Church, a lasting monument to the Templars' legacy.
