The Hagley Elm Mystery

The Hagley Elm Mystery A True Crime Investigation by Jonas Hägglund In 1943, the skeletal remains of a woman were discovered hidden inside the hollow trunk of a wych elm in England's Hagley Wood. Her mouth stuffed with cloth, her limbs contorted-murder was certain. But her identity? Still unknown. The Hagley Elm Mystery is a chilling and meticulously researched account of one of Britain's most haunting unsolved crimes. Drawing on original police records, autopsy reports, press coverage, and decades of public speculation, this true crime narrative reconstructs the investigation that stunned wartime Britain. Why was no missing persons file ever matched to the body? Who painted the eerie graffiti asking "Who put Bella in the Wych Elm?"-and why has no one answered, even eighty years later? Told in gripping, investigative prose, this book explores the facts behind the mystery, separating rumor from reality. Because every victim has a story-until the world forgets to ask.
