Join Ferdi the Goose as he learns to adapt to a changing environment. This is the story of Ferdi the Goose and his flock adapting to climate change. When the weather is confusing and its too warm to bewinter, the geese must decide what to do. Should they go ahead and migrate or should they stay put and wait for familiar signs of winter? Join Ferdi and his friends as they learn to thrive in a changing world. The Goose Who Didn't Migrate is aimed at teaching kids about climate change. The warmer weather and changing environment upend normal patterns for Ferdi's flock. Ferdi models skills for approaching uncertain situations with flexibility. The book emphasizes the importance of asking for help and relying on friends when faced with new challenges. The text is geared towards kids in the 5-7 year range. Developmentally, Ferdi and his friends are intended to be roughly this age too. His siblings are teenagers but coping with teenage siblings is also an important part of being a kid.The Goose Who Didn't Migrate features 29 pages of original full color illustrations by local New England visual artist, Xavier Domjan. The book was inspired by Xavier's observations of the flock of geese living in the corn field behind his house. In 2024, the geese never left. It had been an unusually warm fall and the first snow storm was late in coming. It would appear the real geese got turned around or confused and did not continue south. Ferdi became the personification (goose-ification?) of what Xavier imagined some of those geese to be going through.
