the Gate Beyond Storm

Milo Register fixes wiring for a living. He does not fight monsters, negotiate with warlords, or save floating cities. At least, he didn't - right up until a freak storm on an Ohio back road tore a hole in the sky, sucked him through it, and dropped him face-down in a field on a planet with two moons and a very confused six-legged cow.Welcome to Caldrenna, where money comes from lightning, cities float on captured storms, and an electrician with no magic, no training, and no idea what he's doing is somehow the most useful person for a hundred miles.Milo's only "power" is that he understands current - and on a world where a rare, sacred force called Charge runs everything from streetlights to sky-ships, that turns out to be worth more than anyone (including Milo) expects. Within a week he's wanted by the city Watch, mistaken for a prophesied hero he definitely isn't, and adopted by a found family of misfits: a scheming four-armed fox-cat who insists it's "just business," a fiercely loyal skiff pilot with no patience for nonsense, and an ancient scholar who's been waiting sixty years for someone exactly this unqualified to prove her craziest theory right.Standing in his way is a ruthlessly practical warlord with a plan to seize the one thing that keeps this whole fragile world running - a plan that could strand Milo on Caldrenna forever, or worse. Stopping him will take everything Milo doesn't think he has: courage, cleverness, and the very particular genius of a guy who's spent his whole life doing one unglamorous, essential job extremely well.THE GATE BEYOND THE STORM is a fast, funny, big-hearted portal adventure for anyone who's ever wondered what would happen if the "chosen one" were just some guy with a toolbox. Expect banter, chaos, a genuinely alien world with rules worth discovering, and a hero who succeeds not by being destined for greatness, but by refusing to stop showing up for the people he loves.Perfect for readers who love accessible, lighthearted fantasy adventure - fans of cozy portal fantasy, unlikely heroes, and found-family stories who want humor and heart without needing a glossary to keep up. Great for readers new to fantasy, and for longtime fans looking for something warm, quick-paced, and genuinely fun.
