The First Friend

Before history had a name, something extraordinary happened. A wolf stepped closer to a human fire.A human did not drive it away. From that quiet, uncertain moment, a bond began, one that would shape the course of both species for thousands of years. The First Friend traces this connection across time, moving from the ancient world to the modern day, through lives separated by centuries yet bound by something unmistakably familiar. A hunter notices what others do not. A shepherd begins to understand. A soldier, a child, a stranger in a distant land-all encounter the same presence in different forms, each shaped by the animal that chose to remain. This is not a story of domestication alone. It is a story of recognition.Of trust formed without language.Of partnership built without design.Of something that neither species fully understands-yet both have carried forward, generation after generation.Told in a sweeping, immersive style, The First Friend explores one enduring question:Why did we choose each other? And why, after all this time, do we still?
