When the world ends, survival calls for debts to be paid. In the aftermath of a botanical outbreak that has turned the mainland into a wasteland of gnarled, predatory inhabitants, a small band of survivors found a fragile sanctuary on Stave Island. Surrounded by the cold, protective waters of Lake Champlain, they have built a "Stronghold" out of grit, scavenged timber, and the collective resourcefulness of Leo, his friend Marcus, his ex-wife Heather, and her boyfriend Brad, or as Stave Island inhabitants call them, the "Core Four." But as a brutal Vermont winter approaches, the walls aren't enough. The group is running out of time, medicine, and the specialized knowledge required to survive the deep freeze. To save his community, and his daughters, Leo must lead a desperate, two-pronged raid back into the heart of the infected ruins. It is a mission where every choice has a price, and every shadow in this new reality could be the last.
