The Crossing: An Eliza Calder Investigation

A woman boards a ferry. By morning, only her bag comes back. When solicitor Alice Harcourt disappears during an overnight crossing, everything points towards the sea. Her coat, passport and phone are found abandoned beside the rail, while a violent squall makes the possibility of a fall impossible to dismiss. But DI Eliza Calder isn't convinced.Alice's cabin was barely touched. Her husband has been monitoring her movements. And shortly before she vanished, Alice had begun uncovering suspicious payments buried inside the accounts of dead clients - transactions authorised using her own credentials. As Eliza reconstructs the hours before the crossing, the investigation shifts from a presumed tragedy at sea to something far more deliberate. Alice may not simply have disappeared. She may have been trying to escape. And while Eliza searches for the truth, another investigation refuses to stay buried. A file left behind by Dominic Shaw contains new evidence about the disappearance of Eliza's sister, Mara. One woman has vanished.Another disappeared twenty-two years ago.And Eliza is beginning to suspect that neither story is what she was told.THE CROSSING is the second Eliza Calder investigation, a crime thriller about coercion, deception, and the difference between disappearing and being made to disappear.
