This book is an expansion of a personal reflection: a chain of reasoning that begins with the observation that ordered, sustained, intentional life requires a sustainer, and ends with a claim about how that sustainer's nature places a demand on us to create, to build, to order, rather than merely to consume or to let things fall toward chaos. What follows develops that reasoning at length, not as a formal proof, and not as a survey of what other traditions or philosophers have said, but as a sustained working out of one person's argument, taken seriously and pushed to my current limits. Where the reasoning has gaps or where other views exist, this is noted with respect. The aim throughout this book is to think the original claim through, not to replace it with something safer.
