He is a contemporary Chinese language educator, poet, essayist, and calligrapher. A graduate of Peking University, he served as a senior editor and deputy editor-in-chief at the People's Education Press, as well as the president of the National Association of Chinese Language Teaching in Secondary Schools. He currently holds the positions of honorary president of the Chinese Poetry Society and honorary editor-in-chief of the *Chinese Poetry* magazine. Together with Zang Kejia and Cheng Guangrui, he was known as one of the "Three Friends in Poetry."
