The Child That Will Never Be

Samantha and Ben Ellis have built a good marriage inside a life that gives them very little room. In their cramped Queens apartment, they share burnt toast, bad commutes, private jokes, and a future they have always imagined with a child in it. Then hope becomes appointments. Intimacy becomes schedules. Every answer leads to another bill, another denial, another month of waiting. As fertility treatment consumes their savings and work punishes what it cannot understand, the ordinary structures around them begin to fail: employment, insurance, medicine, friendship, faith. Still, Ben remains Samantha's rock, steady enough for both of them. Until the night even he can no longer stand. Tender, intimate, and quietly unsettling, The Child That Will Never Be is a psychological novel about marriage, grief, institutional abandonment, and the realities love creates when the truth becomes impossible to survive.
