The Chameleon

Previously Published as The Chameleon - First Edition Paris, 1997. Three victims. Three flawless kills. Three hundred witnesses who saw nothing. The assassin the world's intelligence services have chased for decades has come to the City of Light-and left it bleeding, again and again, without ever showing a face. DST Inspector Jacquie Agostini has planned for every entrance, exit, and ventilation shaft. It is not enough. The Chameleon does not defeat your security; he becomes it. To catch a ghost who can be anyone, Agostini reluctantly partners with CIA veteran Alex Wells-and with the strangest asset in the history of the hunt: Sherlock, an African Grey parrot whose mind cracks ciphers the Agency's own analysts cannot. Yet the closer they get, the more the ground shifts beneath them. The Chameleon is not one operative. The name is a legend worn by more than one pair of hands-and behind them stands a controller who has hidden his soul so far outside his body that no blade can reach it. The dazzling fourth novel in the Coca-Cola City saga, Chameleon is a globe-spanning thriller about identity, loyalty, and the unbearable price of freedom-and about two people who, after a lifetime of being owned, quietly decide to run.
