The Buckland Stories: On Professional Judgment and Consequence

The Buckland Stories is a collection of three contemporary works of fiction examining professional judgment and its consequences.Set within institutional and workplace contexts, the stories focus on moments where decisions are made under procedural, ethical, or organisational pressure. Actions that appear reasonable, defensible, or routine at the time give rise to outcomes that cannot easily be reversed, revealing the lasting effects of responsibility, silence, and moral compromise.Rather than relying on plot-driven resolution, the collection is concerned with the internal and social consequences of decision-making. Through restrained prose and close attention to context, it explores how individuals navigate accountability within systems that reward compliance, discourage reflection, and leave little room for reconsideration once judgement has been exercised.
