Wrackline Harbor is the kind of Maine town where everyone knows who belongs, who needs help, and who has been holding a grudge for thirty years. So when a respected retired surveyor is found dead at the bottom of the harbor steps, the town is stunned.Newcomer Cassandra Mercer has spent thirty years defending financial-crime cases in Manhattan, and she knows one thing better than most people: lies leave records. The victim had just announced that an old survey had been altered, changing access to five working wharves. Now Cassandra has the documents he died trying to prove, a town full of people with reasons to want them buried, and a killer who has already murdered once to protect the truth.Using the instincts that made her formidable in a courtroom, Cassandra follows the paper, tests the stories, and closes in on a murderer hiding in plain sight.
