Book conservator Clara Bennett returns to Bellwether Books for one final week before selling the shop she inherited from her aunt. Instead, she finds a crate shipped from Alexandria in 1946-six mysterious volumes and a seventh book engineered to reveal warnings in her own handwriting. In wartime Alexandria, bookbinder Layla Nassar and her husband, journalist Youssef Haleem, uncover a network using chemical inks, forged records, and concealed mechanisms to decide which version of history survives. As Clara follows their trail through fire, family secrets, and a century-old betrayal, she discovers that the books do not know the future. They were designed to manipulate human choices-and someone has prepared one final ending for her. To survive, Clara must separate evidence from fear before a manufactured prediction becomes real.
